(Sonny) Montgomery Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC) in Jackson, MS is recruiting for the following positions on our Inpatient General Medicine and Hospitalist Service:· One (1) exceptional clinical internist to provide inpatient, on-site coverage for our internal medicine inpatient services· Two (2) exceptional clinical internists to provide on-site hospitalist coverage on internal medicine inpatient services duringnights and weekends (Nocturnalist) Physicians must be board eligible / certified in internal medicine and be eligible to hold a faculty appointment with the University of Mississippi School of Medicine, Department of Medicine. Duties may include attending on teaching and/or non-teaching inpatient services that provide care for medical patients and selected surgical subspecialty patients (orthopedics). Other duties may be determined by the Chief of Medical Service. Participation in clinical research is encouraged. The Jackson VAMC is a 155 bed tertiary care hospital with an attached 86 bed community living center and major affiliate of the University of Mississippi School of Medicine and supports University of Mississippi School of Medicine residency and fellowship programs with VA-supported positions. Medical, nursing, and allied-health students also train at the Jackson VA. The hospital supports a primary care population in excess of 45,000 patients and provides specialty, subspecialty, and ancillary care to additional veterans from the Gulf Coast and Louisiana.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Citizenship: U.S. Citizens (non-citizens may be appointed when qualified citizens are not available). Education: Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are:(1) Schools of medicine holding regular institutional membership in the Association of American Medical Colleges for the year in which the degree was granted.(2) Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the American Osteopathic Association for the year in which the degree was granted.(3) Schools (including foreign schools) accepted by the licensing body of a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e. Puerto Rico), or in the District of Columbia as qualifying for full or unrestricted licensure.First-Year Residency (Internship): Must have completed a first-year residency, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which it was completed. For a VA resident, the appropriate Deans Committee and Resident Review Board may recommend appointment on the basis of the candidates acceptability for residency training. Approved residencies are:(1) Those approved by the Council on Medical Education and Hospitals, American Medical Association, in the list published for the year the residency was completed, OR(2) Other residencies or their equivalents which the Professional Standards Board determines to have provided an applicant with appropriate professional training. The Board may determine that the residency requirement has been met if the candidate has completed 1 year of postgraduate education.Licensure: Must possess and maintain a current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.Physical Standards: Applicants must successfully complete a pre-employment physical including the possibility of a drug screen.English Language Proficiency: Physicians appointed to direct patient-care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) and 7407(d).
Drug-Free Workplace: The VA has established a Drug-Free Federal Workplace Policy. All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with the VA for a period of six months. This policy extends to random testing for the use of illegal drugs by employees who occupy testing designated positions defined as sensitive in Section 7(d) of Executive Order 12564.
Background Investigation: A background security investigation will be required for all new hires. Appointment will be subject to the applicant's successful completion of a background security investigation and favorable adjudication. Failure to successfully meet these requirements will be grounds for termination.
