KEY REQUIREMENTS

DUTIES:
The G.V. (Sonny) Montgomery VA Medical Center and the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) Department of Medicine are seeking one full-time and one part-time faculty physician to work primarily in the Community Living Center (CLC) and Hospice/Palliative Care Units as an attending physician. Board eligibility/certification in Internal Medicine is required and Board eligibility/certification in Geriatrics is favorable, but not required. Qualifications for faculty appointment to the University of Mississippi, School of Medicine as determined by the Chairman of Internal Medicine are required. Faculty appointment and salary will commensurate with credentials and experience.

This position will include direct patient care i! n the CLC and Hospice/Palliative Care Units, Palliative Care Consultati! on, teaching and research as well as supervision/teaching of medical students, residents, and fellows who rotate through these areas. Board eligible/certified Geriatricians will assist with Geriatrics Consults and outpatient clinics.

Other duties may be assigned by the Chief of Medical Service.

Ongoing duties of the CLC Physician include:

Will participate in assigned medical staff committees

·

Will participate in the GEC screening committee

·

Will provide in-services to staff and others as needed

·

Will provide monthly review of physician extenders in accordance with hospital policy and meet with the physician extenders daily with discussion of their daily assignments and ongoing evaluation/follow-up of their residents with countersignature of their notes understanding the physician has the ultimate responsibility for the resident (patient)

·

Will participate! in peer review and Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluations (OPPE) in accordance with facility policy.

·

Will provide ongoing daily review with physician extenders to obtain daily status of residents receiving inpatient care

·

Proceed and start discharge planning as needed

·

Will collaborate with Nurse Practitioners assigned to the CLC/Hospice/Palliative Care units

·

Provide a timely review and written documentation of all requested lab, radiological studies and orders.

·

Will ensure all patient charts have at least one attending note documented in the patientÂ's electronic medical record (CPRS) per regulations and discuss with documentation of the advance directives for each resident and renewal of the advance directive (s) per policy.

·

Schedule family meetings as required/requested

·

Document through CPRS all encounters with family, patie! nts, and ancillary staff including lab and radiological reports
·

Perform admission history and physical on new admission within 24 hours

·

Perform yearly physical exams as needed

·

Oversee all consults submitted by their assigned or covering physician extenders.

·

Will document all encounters with assigned trainees.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
BASIC REQUIREM

ENTS:
Citizenship.

Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.

Education:
D

egree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.

Licensure and Registration:
Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.

English Language Proficiency.

Physicians, in! cluding residents, appointed to direct patient-care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) and 7407(d).

The preferred candidate will possess the following:

Successful completion of Internal Medicine residency

·

Training in Geriatric Medicine

·

Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Geriatrics

Physical Standards:
Applicants must successfully complete a preemployment physical including the possibility of a drug screen.

Drug-Free Workplace:
The VA has established a Drug-Free Federal Workplace Policy. All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illega! l drug use prior to appointment. Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with the VA for a period of six months. This policy extends to random testing for the use of ilegal drugs by employees who occupy testing designated positions defined as sensitive.

Background Investigation:
A background security investigation will be required for all new hires. Appointment will be subject to the applicant's sucessful completion of a background security investiagtion and favorable adjucation. Failure to successfully meet these requirement will be grounds for termination.
