(Sonny) Montgomery VA Medical Center and the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) Department of Medicine are seeking one full-time and one part-time faculty physician to work primarily in the Community Living Center (CLC) and Hospice/Pa! lliative Care Units as an attending physician. Board eligibili! ty/certification in Internal Medicine is required and Board eligibility/certification in Geriatrics is favorable, but not required. Qualifications for faculty appointment to the University of Mississippi, School of Medicine as determined by the Chairman of Internal Medicine are required. Faculty appointment and salary will commensurate with credentials and experience. This position will include direct patient care in the CLC and Hospice/Palliative Care Units, Palliative Care Consultation, teaching and research as well as supervision/teaching of medical students, residents, and fellows who rotate through these areas. Board eligible/certified Geriatricians will assist with Geriatrics Consults and outpatient clinics. Other duties may be assigned by the Chief of Medical Service. Join VA! The Best Care!   • Education: Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.
  • Licensure and Registration: Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
English Language Proficiency. Physicians, including residents, appointed to direct patient-care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) and 7407(d). Physical Standards: Applicants must successfully complete a preemployment physical including the possibility of a drug scree! n. English Language Proficiency: Physicians appointed to direct patient-care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English. Drug-Free Workplace: The VA has established a Drug-Free Federal Workplace Policy. All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with the VA for a period of six months. This policy extends to random testing for the use of ilegal drugs by employees who occupy testing designated positions defined as sensitive. Background Investigation: A background security investigation will be required for all new hires. Appointment will be subject to the applicant's sucessful completion of a background security investiagtion and favorable adjucation. Failure to successfully meet these requirement will be grounds for termination.
