If so, you might be the person we are looking for to be an APS6 Project Manager within Naval Shipbuilding and Sustainment Group, located in Canberra, Sydney, Adelaide, Perth, Cairns or Darwin.

APS6 Project Managers are accountable to perform and achieve complex project management work within an integrated workforce. An APS6 Project Manager will work independently with the opportunity for reasonable autonomy and accountability for the achievement of outcomes of their work. They will exercise both initiative and judgement in the interpretation of policy and in the application of practices and procedures.

An APS6 Project Manager may be a team coach or lead a team and be accountable to set work priorities and manage workflows. They are expected to be capable of building team capability through coaching, feedback and developing the quality of work undertaken by others within a work unit.

An APS6 Project Manager will have considerable level of stakeholder engagement and will liaise with stakeholders in relation to complex or difficult issues. They will be required to identify, anticipate and respond to stakeholders’ needs and expectations to achieve work unit and Defence outcomes. They will be accountable to contribute towards ongoing self-improvement and professional development.

As an APS6 Project Manager you will be required to demonstrate a range of skills, however the specific competencies below are considered critical to success within APS Project Management roles.

  • Analyse information – probe for clarity, produce solutions, make judgements, and think systemically.

  • Adapting and responding to change - accept new ideas, adapt to interpersonal styles, show sensitivity to different cultures or backgrounds and deal with ambiguity at work.
