Under the umbrella of UCLA Campus Life, a division of Student Affairs, UCLA Recreation is a large department with approximately 90 career/contract and over 1,000 temporary/part-time employees. UCLA Recreation provides extensive access to a broad range of recreational activities and services. The department offers programming which encompasses the competitive, passive, social, cultural, and instructional aspects of recreational activity. In addition, UCLA Recreation manages 15 of the University's recreational and athletic facilities offering recreation, sport, and numerous multi-use options for student and university events.
Under the direction of the John Wooden Center Facility Manager (Recreation Program Leader 3), the John Wooden Center, Assistant Manager supports the management of the John Wooden Center (JWC), a multi-use recreational center that includes 13000 sq. ft. of strength & conditioning space, three gymnasia, four hardwood-floor studios, a martial arts studio, multiple racquetball and squash courts, two locker rooms and multiple offices and conference rooms. Users include students, staff, faculty, academic departments, special interest groups, alumni, intercollegiate athletics and other campus agencies.

The incumbent supports the management of the JWC, including Strength and Conditioning Zones. Incumbent will provide high level customer service to various user groups, campus departments and non-university agencies. Incumbent is also responsible for the recruitment, hiring and training of approximately 75 part-time student employees, and ensuring that all areas are adequately staffed and supervised to provide an inclusive recreation environment for students, members, occupants and guests and safe use of space and equipment.

1. Demonstrated knowledge and use of appropriate terminology in anatomy, biomechanics, kinesiology, exercise physiology, and exercise adaptations for special populations.

2. Broad working knowledge of the administration and maintenance of a fitness facility, preferably in a campus (University) recreation setting.

3. Skill in writing concise, logical and grammatically correct business correspondence, proposals and evaluations.

10. Working knowledge of and skill in First Aid, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Automated External Defibrillator use and protocol to assist in emergency response as needed.
